The Biggest Clown in College Football: STEVE SARKISIAN

I’m going to write what every single Texas fan though when they watched this game: WHAT THE LITERAL FUCK. That’s exactly the words that I kept repeating to myself over, and over, and over again. The only thing I said more during the Texas/OU game was “what is he doing?”

Sarkisian proved, once again, that he is not someone that young men will look to as a leader. He is NO head coach, and he definitely does not deserve to be paid millions of dollars to lead a program with the pedigree of the University of Texas. Going into this game, the Horns basically stood to make the CFB Playoffs with a win. Nobody left on the schedule was anywhere near the level of the Longhorns, and going through the regular season undefeated would almost certainly guarantee the Horns a sport in the CFB Playoffs.

Instead, the Horns suffered a devestating defeat at the hands of the Sooners. And, what makes the whole thing so much sicker to Longhorn fans, is that the Sooners really didn’t do much to beat Texas. It was Texas who beat Texas, shooting themselves in the foot time and time again. Yes the final drive of the game was good for the Sooners, but they were aided by 3 horrific missed holding calls on their offensive line (Sooners weren’t called for a hold the entire game), as well as a defensive PI call that moved the ball inside the 10 yard line. But, you look at the rest of the miscues by the Horns: 9 penalties for a total of 70 yards (including the DPI on the final possesion), 3 Quinn Ewers TOs (1 in the redzone), and a turnover on downs on a series that started first and goal from inside the one.

But let’s look specifically at the biggest CLOWN in college football, and his decision making in this game.

First, as mentioned above, Texas had a first and goal on the OU one, following a big catch and run from Jordan Whittington. Every Texas fan, myself included, assumed it was a walk in touchdown. However, Sark, despite actually having under center packages (some teams don’t) does not have a QB Sneak in his package. So that went out the window. Instead the Horns went with three straight basic runs up the middle, all of which got stuffed for a combined negative two yards. In these packages, Sarkisian did not use any tempo, and huddled every single time, allowing OU to sub and rest in between runs. Any tempo likely results in a walk in touchdown. Secondly, he had TWO FUCKING DEFENSIVE LINEMAN in on these runs. The gimmick cost the Horns BIG TIME. This brought up a fourth and goal in which Sark then called a quick screen, getting Xavier Worthy on the move coming back towards the ball so he had momentum moving towards the endzone. Worthy was stopped about half an inch short of the goal line, and OU took over on downs. The play calling in this spot was disgusting, but even worse it was insanely predictable. And it cost the Horns seven points.

This wasn’t the only time Sark’s play calling hurt Texas inside the twenty. The Horns had a second and four at the OU six yard line earlier in the game. After a first down run up the middle for six, Sark put Ewers under center and called a jet sweep, which went for a loss of five yards. It was a ridiculous call in the situation, but it is not surprising to Texas fans. Sark loves to call plays that have a high risk of being a negative play (quick screen passes with no blockers, toss plays, jet sweeps). The play ended up costing Texas a touchdown as they were forced to settle for a field goal.

It wasn’t just the play calling, though, as Sark’s inability to manage his players cost Texas as well. Keelan Robinson (number 7 for the Horns) attempted to return the first 4 kickoffs by OU, with not a single return reaching the 25 yard line. Twice the Horns started inside their own twenty yard line, and yet time and time again Robinson continued to do it. He’s got not ability to recognize or manage little things that make the difference between a win or a loss.

Now let’s circle back to the second to last possession for the Horns offense. They got the ball back with under five minutes to go, and a chance to go down and win the game., despite all the shit that had gone wrong. On the final drive, Sark had the offense moving, and yet after reaching midfield with under 3 minutes to go, he continued to go fast paced, not running ANY time off the clock. This basically kept OU alive, as Texas wins on their final field goal attempt if the time had run down in between plays on this drive. That mismanagement of the clock was horrible. But, still Texas has the ball in a third down and nine, with just over a minute to play. On third and nine, with a chance to essentially end the game, Sark decides to RUN THE BALL. Essentially, he knew they had no chance to get the first down, and played for a 45 yard field goal, thinking that making it would result in a Texas win.

The Horns did not get the first down, they settled for the field goal, and despite making it we all know what happened next. Sark needs to go. He is an absolute CLOWN, and his mismanagement of this team 100% should result in him losing his job. It’s absolutely disgusting that this man gets paid millions of dollars to coach this team, and time and time again absolutely rip our hearts out.

Sark has ONE way to redeem himself. Win out this season, get to the Big 12 Title game, and beat OU in that game. Doing that would put the Horns in the CFB Playoffs, a spot they absolutely deserve if you look at the top 4 teams from a pure talent standpoint. If he can’t do that, and the Horns stumble down the stretch, or even lose again to OU, then you will not find me watching any Texas football games in the near future (Unless Manning starts). Sark, you are an absolute clown and I hope you know that you ruined millions of peoples weekends with your absolute incompetence.
